With a passion for everything floral, Emma Burns-Di Lauro specialises in beautiful acrylic botanical paintings and candles.

With a love for flowers and nature, Emma beautifully depicts the unique features of every flower, from hydrangeas to pansy’s,
creating artwork to add that little bit of colourful magic to your home throughout the year.

Like many, Emma started her business during the pandemic lockdown. However, unlike many it all started from a simple Instagram post without any intention to attract as much interest as it did. On the hunt for artwork for her daughter’s nursery, Emma struggled to find anything she really loved. She decided to paint something herself and with a simple post of her painting on Instagram her small business literally blossomed over night.

Emma’s collection of artisanal creations range from candles to paintings; her candles are decorated with intricately painted flowers or whimsical animals, whilst her personalised monogram artwork makes a wonderful gift or addition to a little one’s room. Emma’s artwork is “floristry with a paintbrush”, her creations bursting with vivid colours and intricate detail. Emma’s natural creative talent turns everyday flowers into something unique and utterly charming.

The history of botanical art dates back to the 15th century, as a way of studying plants, artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci used their drawings to look deeper into a plant and to find that there is a lot more than what meets the eye initially. Today, modern artists have various ways of creating botanical artistry, Emma’s interest in nature and flowers is displayed through her paintings, and her bold use of colour.

With the growth of her small business in Jersey, Emma has received numerous commissions for her one-of-a-kind art, from full family artworks to wedding décor. Though mainly “rooted” in florals Emma has recently branched out into other themes, such as her distinctive Jersey Cow Candles, which are as quirky and fun as they sound.

What is it like running your own small business?

As much as it sounds cliché, having a childhood passion for flowers that then unexpectedly grows into a small business is nothing short of a dream. I paint a lot of very sentimental and personal pieces and there is nothing quite so rewarding as managing to put to paper what someone is envisioning in their mind.

How do you approach sustainability?

Candles are a very delicate product to distribute, and bespoke paintings also require a lot of packaging and wrapping to ensure the safety upon delivery. I recycle and reuse a lot of my wrapping materials and have made small changes to how I package my orders to be more environmentally friendly. Within my brand the candles are toxic free, I swapped stickers for wax seals and all my business cards are now fully plantable.

What’s Next?

Over the next few months, my original painting collection will be available to purchase through my website. I’m so excited for the unveiling of new products exhibiting designs I’ve been working on for months as we approach the festive season later in the year, keep your eyes peeled….
