Creating a keepsake of a memory, a place or an adventure is something to treasure forever. And if it comes as an original piece of art, all the better.

Based in Hertfordshire, surrounded by paper, pens and sketchbooks, Ali can be found working on her limited edition collections and commissions from clients, creating personalised heirlooms to keep forever.

We chat to Ali Collins about her hand-drawn artwork, and how she draws inspiration (literally) from her childhood spent travelling with her film industry father and interior designer mother, visiting museums and galleries and living in a family home filled with original paintings and artwork.

And to help fill those frames, Ali also has ready-made collections, illustrating a selection of coast and seaside memories.

What do you enjoy the most about running your business?

I love taking a blank piece of paper and turning it into an emotive, nostalgic artwork, in a unique special way. Preserving someone’s story with a piece of original art. Making memories became my priority after losing both my parents, my mother with Alzheimer’s.

Your memories matter to you, so they matter to me. It’s not just “another sale” it’s part of a journey, storytelling a memory, an heirloom piece of art which can be passed down the generations. It’s a privilege to be part of that journey.

How do you approach sustainability?

In such a fast-paced time, where mass produced prints or generic artwork is the norm, I choose pen and paper. My work is all about attention to detail, where everything is carefully considered.

The paper I use is a beautiful English watercolour paper, traditionally made on a cylinder mould machine at St Cuthberts Mill, using 100% wood free pulp. The frames I use are made by a gallery in my neighbouring village.

Reusable, recyclable and compostable is at the forefront of my packaging. My artwork comes wrapped in acid free tissue paper and biodegradable bubble wrap and corrugated paper roll. The Box itself is 100% recyclable as is the packing tape and all made in the UK.

What’s next?

Currently I am updating and improving my website so it is much more customer focused, detailing the process of commissioning a bespoke artwork and explaining that the experience is seamless from initial consultation to final delivery with regular updates and progress photos.

Such a personalised service ensures every detail of your artwork is tailored for you. I am also now offering commission slots for my original hand drawn artwork. I will also be introducing a voucher, which you can buy as a gift for family or friends who will be able to commission their own special place artwork. This would make the perfect wedding, anniversary or birthday present.
